Installing a WiFi Mesh System doesn’t have to be difficult. Let me talk you through how to do it. I’m using the TP-Link Deco system to do it and thoroughly recommend them. It’s what I have in my own house. If you have a large area to cover with wifi or many dead spots, indeed, a wifi mesh system may be for you. Mesh systems have faster speeds, greater coverage, and a much more reliable connection due to their multiple access points.

With a Mesh WiFi router, you can skip signing into a new network every time you go upstairs or to a different point in the house and stay connected to a single network no matter where you are. Mesh technology is smart and intuitive, letting you stay online even if one of your mesh nodes fails.
Furthermore, by having multiple access points like the one below, a mesh system eliminates dead spots and makes for a much more reliable connection. Of course, near seamless connection from one node to the next makes it the best choice for reliable and fast home networking.
One unit links to the modem, and then that unit then becomes the main hub. The other units called “nodes” will repeat the router’s signal. The result is an efficient wireless network that provides a strong signal no matter where you are. Indeed, below is what one of the mesh nodes looks like.
Setting up a mesh WiFi system at home is relatively simple and can be done in a few steps:
Choose the right system: First, you’ll need to choose a mesh WiFi system that meets your needs. Consider factors such as the size of your home, the number of devices you have, and your internet speed.
Place the nodes: Next, you’ll need to place the nodes throughout your home. The main node should be connected to your modem and placed in a central location. The other nodes should be placed in areas where you want to improve WiFi coverage.

The Deco App.
Of course, as with everything these days, there is an app for everything. This is installed on your smartphone or similar, and allows you to control the network, gives you reports and allows you to set various options like ssid’s (Network Names) and parental controls.
Above is the loading screen of the Deco app. This then, after set up, takes you to the main screen below.
Guest Network – Setting up a WiFi Mesh System
Here it shows the networks you have. I have a Home network and one for guests. These are configurable and you don’t have to have a guest network if you don’t want one. Pressing the circular globe at the top lists all the deco nodes in the network.
Clicking on one of the devices gives you upload and download speeds, network information, and, of course, a list of connected devices.
The ‘more’ settings button brings up this. With the installs I do for my customers they get a choice, I can manage the network, or they can. And I provide instruction and a guided tour of how they can do it.
